               Department of Chemistry, Namrup College, Namrup  was established by a dint of painstaking effort of some local worthies and under the dynamic leadership of Mrs. Bulbul Borgohain, ex-faculty and HOD, Namrup College, Namrup in the year of 1973.The Major Course was introduced in 2003. Presently, the Department has three permanent teachers with good track records. Faculty members impart teaching in an interactive and student-friendly environment by using the Audio- Visual system.

         The Department offers Undergraduate programs in Degree level in B.Sc. Major with Chemistry (Six Semester course) with an intake capacity of 20 students and B. Sc. program with Chemistry (Six Semester Course). 

         The students mostly come from economically backward classes. The teachers are quite helpful and due to their dedication and involvement, most of the students do well and some of Chemistry graduates clear various entrance examinations and are able to get admission for pursuing post-graduate courses in Central and State Universities and NITS. Apart from classroom teaching, faculty members are involved in research projects and other social outreach programs organized by the college family. Major students are encouraged to take up small literature surveys and experimental based projects under the supervision of the faculty. The Department also provides Industrial In-plant training program for necessary scientific exposure to students in collaboration with BVFCL, and APL, Namrup. 

          The Department publishes a wall magazine which is useful in many ways. Besides scientific and literary articles, it contains information from every sphere. Apart from that Students are actively involved in various social services and other programs which help them to develop their soft skills. 

        The department currently has two well-equipped laboratories that house modern instruments procured from UGC(RUSA) Grant such as Digital Potentiometers, pH meters, colorimeters, Digital conductivity meter, Digital Balance, Polarimeter, Oil-free vacuum pump, Hot air Oven, Magnetic stirrer, Heating Mantle, Instrument for microwave-assisted Reactions, Solvent distillation plant, Apparatus for TLC and Column Chromatography, Water distillation plant, etc.
