Field Study of Botany Department
The Biology subject was started along with the establishment of the Namrup College in 1973 having Pre-degree science course. The subject was taught by temporary or flying teachers until 1986. Degree course in Biochemistry core was started in 1987. In the meantime, the science stream of the college was brought under deficit grants in the aid system of the government of Assam in 1992. Major course in Botany has been running since 1993.
Now, the Department of Botany of Namrup College is one of the well-equipped department in the college. It has been imparting the teaching on B. Sc Major and core courses in the subject Botany under the academic curriculum of Dibrugarh University. Apart from the B. Sc course, the department is providing hands-on training to the students on gardening, plantation technique, usage of herbal medicine, tree plantation technique, carrier consultation for Biology students, and study about biodiversity. For creating awareness and bringing more closure with the nature department has formed the Botanical Society. Each student may voluntarily engage themselves towards the plantation program, biodiversity, and nature conservation and be a part of nature conservation through this small platform.
Our ex-students are well established in various fields of the career world. There is University and College Professor, Higher Executives of Banks, Central Government Services, School Teachers, etc among our passing out students.
We feel proud of being a faculty of this department of Namrup College.

We are providing free training for our students to enable them technically experts in mushroom cultivation, vermicompost preparation and maintenance, nursery management technic and hydroponics cultivation. Department is also taking responsibility to organize awareness programs throughout the year. Among these - International Wetland Day, Biodiversity Day, No Tobacco Day, Plantation Drive, etc.
Department has its own forum in the name of "Botanical Society" and performs duty in all departmental and in college activities.
Learning process:
The department is well equipped with modern teaching aids and instruments. Theory classes are doing through the LCD projector, model, chart, topic-wise field visit, etc. Department has a high-resolution microscope, best autoclave, 20000 RPM ultra-centrifuge, etc.
During the pandemic situation cause by COVID-19, departmental faculty were engaged in the preparation of self-learning materials, tutorial video, online classes, etc. for continuing the teaching and learning processes. For the benefit of students, some recorded tutorial class videos are uploaded on the college website under the button Online Classes.
The Botany department has its own departmental blog/website to share the different activities of the students http://botanydeptnc.blogspot.com. Through this blog, we are trying to develop the writing skills of the students.

Departmental New Initiative
Any employee, either a Teacher or Laboratory staff, have a deep bond with the departmental or college fraternity in his service period. Departmental fraternity expresses their deep gratitude and cordial love at the time of someone's retirement. Apart from the general farewell or gratitude program, the Botany department is intending to publish a souvenir for retired Teaching and Non-Staff of the department. In this regard, a SOUVENIR was published for Mr. Dibyadhar Hatimuria, Laboratory Assistant on his last working day in the department.
